The idea of filming a movie in outer space will become a reality next year, barring any problems on the launch pad, in flight, or once in space. Nonetheless, despite the dangers, Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman will board the tourist flight of the Space X Crew Dragon in October 2021, according to Twitter account @ShuttleAlmanac. A tourist flight sounds pleasant, but it’s unlikely Cruise will be just enjoying the sights when gets there.

Interest around the film is gathering pace. Rumors of Cruise filming on the ISS leaked in May this year, and in July, Universal expressed interest in distributing the finished film. Liman and Cruise, who teamed up on Edge of Tomorrow, will receive assistance from both NASA and SpaceX during filming.Â
Not much more is known about the project, but for an actor like Cruise, who falls off helicopters, climbs mountains and skyscrapers, jumps off cliffs, flies jet planes, and routinely finds new stunts to top his previous efforts, space seems like the final frontier. He’s about to boldly go where no actor has gone before.
